Her Extraordinary Colours

Her Extraordinary Colours is a collaborative artwork created with women from around Berwick, celebrating overlooked local histories through contemporary abstraction. Following a period of research using museum objects and archives, participants explored stories of resilience, creativity and labour, focusing on women whose lives shaped the area, from knitters and landladies to traders and campaigners. Their research inspired a series of bold geometric flag designs, each representing either individual or wider communities of women. Flown on flagpoles across Berwick, Spittal and Tweedmouth during September and October 2025, they form an art trail based on the six month residency,
