Al Sadu drawings
Project type
Pencil and pen on paper (A5)
Date
2024
Location
UK
These drawings are inspired by my time living in Kuwait and travelling across the Middle East. They draw on the rich visual language of regional textiles, colours, and patterns—particularly those found in Al Sadu weaving.
Al Sadu is a traditional weaving technique practised by Bedouin women throughout the Arabian Peninsula. Using ground looms, they create bold geometric designs that symbolise elements of nature, tribal identity, and daily life. Passed down through generations, this craft is deeply rooted in nomadic heritage and collective memory. Both functional and expressive, Al Sadu textiles are used for tents, cushions, and decorative objects, embodying a legacy of skill, storytelling, and cultural resilience.
