Cresswell Residency

Over the course of a year, I worked in collaboration with artist Sara Cooper as joint artists-in-residence at Cresswell Pele Tower and Garden on the Northumberland coast. Embedded within this historic site, we engaged with its layered past through ongoing research, conversations with volunteers, and participatory activities with visiting groups.

Rather than producing defined outcomes, the residency offered a space for open-ended inquiry. My response evolved through monthly site visits, resulting in a series of drawings that moved between present observation and imagined memory. A key strand of my work explored codes—both visual and historical—culminating in an alphabetic system that drew conceptual links between the geometry of the coastal radar towers, the Cresswell-Baker family, and the cryptographic legacy of the Enigma machine.
